It is a fact that while we all want to be fashionable and stylish, there’s no denying that if it comes effortlessly and takes less time than it usually would, we are going to grab it with both hands, albeit languorously.
Athleisure – athletic and leisure. The terms are completely on different ends of the spectrum but that’s the beauty of this trend.
The trend has been around for a while and it probably stemmed from 2014’s Normcore. However it is now much more accessible and frankly, straightforward. And it seems like it is going to be around for quite some time because wearing insanely comfortable clothing and footwear at all times. . . well, who doesn’t want that?
I say accessible because you can start to get on board with the trend from simply a pair of chic yoga pants, a well-fitting sports bra, a denim jacket and trusty white sneakers. For that very reason, it is becoming more and more apparent that Athleisure is not just a trend anymore, but a lifestyle. Right from high street to designer wear, the stores are flooded with clothing that fits the broad spectrum of being perfect for either athletic or leisure activities or both. Athleisure is right up the alley of people who are pressed for time and are looking for fashion that’s effortless and comfortable. And truthfully, that describes most urban people today.
Come to think of it, Bollywood woke up to the trend as early as 1997 when Karisma Kapoor strutted around everywhere in a sports bra and shorts in Dil To Pagal Hai. Or Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai who made headbands and white sneakers the norm. Well, trends do come back and this particular one has come back with a bang and in better, breathable fabric and styles.
Be it your Adidas Superstars, Lululemon yoga pants, Chanel couture sneakers, or even Beyonce’s Athleisure line Ivy Park, the trend is all set to carry on well into 2017. And I don’t hear anyone complaining! Carrying an extra outfit to work for lounging around later? So passé.

I could just live on my yoga pants if they were allowed in office 🙂 Yes athleisure is totally in. And what better way to flaunt those abs too 🙂

Hey I loved this trend , its super for someone who doesnt fashion too seriously. Coz its so effortless and casual yet chic.
Interesting that you pointed out the 90s trendsetters , they dont get their due even though some women were way before their time when they sported interesting trends..
Are you following a theme for #MyFriendAlexa?

I’m so obsessed with this type of look! I’ve been walking to work lately which is 5 miles so I’ve had to wear trainers (I’m not usually a trainer person) so I feel like this look can make me look trendy whilst doing so, haha 🙂
