Red and Gold

Power. Desire. Strength. Passion. Love.

One color, many expressions. The power of a red lipstick, the amorous symbol of a red heart, the sanguine shades of blood. And also the color of celebration. The color of Christmas. The color of the promise of a new beginning. A bright and shiny new year.

This Christmas I decided to stop traffic in this red and gold number. I bought this dress for my birthday party last year and hadn’t worn it ever since. What better time to make a statement in gold and red than the holidays, am I right?

Styled it with simple gold accessories. Shot on the streets of Versova on Christmas early morning with my lovely Amrita.

Enjoy the pictures! Hope you had a beautiful Christmas. And oh yes, have a Happy New Year! 🙂

Back to Basics : With White, Denim and Fringe

Denim, white and fringe

I have always been a fan of white shirts with denim. It’s a classic combination that looks casual and sophisticated at the same time. Simple and chic.

And now that I have coloured my hair red, I have been gravitating more towards simple and clean looks. I guess because it makes the hair stand out even more. The hair is my statement accessory now.

Speaking of accessories, I love how these blue shoes and the fringe bag have completed the look. Totally in love with the bag. Very boho and chic. Fringe is huge this year! It has been taking spotlight on the runway and the streets. It has become so popular that it can be considered a wardrobe staple now.

This look just goes to show that a classic look can be pepped up with accessories. You can take the most basic ensemble and tweak it to your own style.

For those days when you feel like you have nothing to wear and need to get dressed in minutes, go ahead and pull out the basics and your favourite accessories. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed with “trends” and tend to over-think our outfits. Basics are the saviours.

Wearing black in Summer

I am all for breaking fashion myths. Most people are unconvinced about wearing black in the summer, especially during daytime. But I feel like if you choose the right fabric, cut and style it right, the colour does not matter. Black is my go-to colour. Like there is comfort food, there are comfort colours and for me it is black. As much as I love pastels and floral during summer, sometimes it is impossible not to gravitate towards black.

The secrets to wearing black during the summer and the daytime are:

  • Choose lightweight and flowing fabrics. Avoid anything thick, tight fitting and clingy.
  • Keep the jewellery minimal. You want the look to be minimalistic and summer friendly.
  • Keep your makeup clean and fresh. You do not want a cakey face and oodles of makeup. Stick to a bright lip, a bold eye or a bare, fresh face.

So if you love black just like I do, just keep these small things in mind and rock the colour!

Get Your Geek On

I am quite fascinated with Normcore these days.

Is it a trend, or antithesis of a trend? It emerged as a phenomenon last year when K-hole coined the term in fashion reports. Ever since, the “trend” has taken over the fashion world. The idea is to dress averagely, ditching your Choos and Chanels for unbranded jeans, regular sportswear and minimal to no accessories. It is the ultimate about turn for fashion insiders who love their labelled razzmatazz.

According to K-hole, Normcore “finds liberation in being nothing special, and realizes that adaptability leads to belonging”.

It is confusing, yes. It is a fluid term, and the key is to find your own perception of it.

This look is my take on Normcore. On a related note, I’m not sure if I’m ready yet to dismiss a statement accessory or embrace Birkenstocks. We’ll see.

Culotte of Love

Hello lovelies! Sorry about being MIA. We’re bringing you something very exciting on the blog very soon so stay put for that!
I have waxed lyrical about my love for culottes on the blog and my instagram before. In fact, I love all kinds of wide legged pants. Culottes are great because they kinda look like midi skirts but they’re sort of shorts that are sort of pants 😀

There are a hundred ways in which they can be styled. Here, I have styled them with a basic white top and added some spark with black and gold accessories. Great for brunch with the girls or a date!
Here are some other ways in which I’d style them:
– With a sparkly top and killer heels for a night out.
– With a slouchy tee and sneakers for a Sunday shopping spree.
– With a crop top, a top knot and bold lips for a statement.
How would you style them? Do share your ideas with me! 🙂
