When we talk of Spring in India, it’s not about jackets or capes or even leather pants. The transition from winter to summer is so short lived that we don’t really have an actual Spring. However, the early summer days is all where it starts. From bulky jackets, capes, boots, it’s a welcoming change for floral dresses, cute flats, funky sling bags, candy toned accessories and balmy summer nights spent barbecuing and eating strawberry ice-creams.
Here are some of Spring/Summer 2013 trends we cannot wait to sport and see more of this year
Pastels
Inspired by french macarons, Pastels or more commonly known as candy colors is the next big thing. Be it dresses, nails, accessories or even hair. It’s difficult to ignore the classic 50’s fashion phenomenon with splashes of green, blue, pink, yellow, purple this spring. This trend is all about embracing your inner femininity. Think structured pastel dresses, hats, pointy toe heels, classic purses. You cannot go overboard with the candy color goodness, so don’t be afraid to experiment or even go head to toe pastel.
Lace
Romantic, vintage 80’s lace is another trend to look forward to this Spring/Summer. Definitely not a new trend to come along, it has been around for a good couple of years now. But that doesn’t make it all the more stale or overly done. Lace could be incorporated in any outfit, from very commonly seen on pop star Madonna- lacy lingerie, to lacy dresses even lace purses, shoes and nail art. So dig in your mothers closet, find that perfect floral dress, throw in a few trendy accessories and let that inner 80’s diva out.
Vertical Stripes
After a few season’s old horizontal stripes, it’s high time to make way for vertical stripes. Spring/Summer 2013 fashion week runways rocked the trend and there is a lot of inspiration to look around for. Wear the trend with vertical breezy long blouses on skinny jeans and oxfords, vertical striped pants with black and white blouses, chunky necklaces. Vertical stripes also give an illusion of added height.
Floral
Florals have been around for a really long time. So what’s different this time around? This spring calls for bigger floral prints in bold colors, long flowy floral skirts, massive floral prints on trousers. Our favorite is Gemma Arterton’s Erdem floral dress during Resort 2013 red carpet. 80’s in it’s full glory we say.
Bold Lips
Give the classic red lips a break this season and look out for orange and bright pink toned lips. These hues make your face look fresh and lively and call for a great Summer look. Morange by M.A.C is your best bet for orange colored lips. Colorbar’s Obsessed Orange is another favorite and is quite a steal at some odd Rs.250 a lipstick. For pink tones Impassioned by M.A.C is quite a hit while Revlon Colorburst- Fuchsia is great option, too. If you aren’t digging the bright lips trend, try lip stains for a more natural and muted look. You could stain your lips using a lipstick, swipe some on your arm and with your fingers dab it on your lips. Top it off with a gloss. Or use a lip stain. Clinique’s chubby stain comes highly rated.
Sheer Black
This trend is certainly not for the faint at heart but if you are bold and pretty much out there then this is for you. Think sheer black dresses and blouses. Sheer blacks look best when teamed with other solid colors. This one’s for the rock chick.
Statement Sunglasses
Statement sunglasses are making a comeback and this time the wackier, the tackier, the better. Prada, Karen Walker and even Rayban are coming up with oversized, statement sunglasses for the upcoming season. If you are on a budget, Colaba Causeway in Bombay should be your stop for funky and hip eyewear options. We however recommend sunglasses with UV protection to keep your eyes safe from the damaging sun rays.
